NFC Tag Instructions

How to Program Your NFC Tag
Step 1: Download the NFC Tools app
Look for the app by wakdev (there are copycat apps with similar names, so check the developer before downloading).

  1. iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/nfc-tools/id1252962749
  2. Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wakdev.wdnfc

Step 2: Write your link to the tag

  1. Open NFC Tools.
  2. Tap the Write tab at the bottom.
  3. Tap Add a record.
  4. Select what you want to share:
    1. Instagram: Tap Social networks, choose Instagram, then enter your username (just yourusername, no link needed).
    2. TikTok: Tap Social networks, choose TikTok, then enter your username.
    3. Website: Tap URL/URI, then enter your full link (https://yourwebsite.com.
  5. Tap OK.
  6. Tap Write.
  7. Hold the back of your phone against the NFC tag until you see Write complete!
  8. Close the app and tap your phone to the tag to test it.

Note: Stick to one link per tag. When someone taps the tag with their phone, only the first link will open automatically, so extra entries get ignored

.
Step 3: Rewrite or lock your tag

Your tag stays rewritable by default. You can change the link anytime by repeating Step 2 with new info, and the new data replaces the old.

If you want to make the tag permanent (for example, if you're giving it as a gift or want to make sure no one else can change it), you can lock it:

  1. In NFC Tools, tap the Other tab.
  2. Tap Lock tag.
  3. Hold your phone against the tag to lock it.

Warning: Locking is permanent. Once a tag is locked, the data on it can never be changed or erased. Only lock a tag when you're 100% sure the link is correct.

For the Person Reading the Tag

When someone taps the tag with their phone, the link should pop up automatically. If nothing happens:

Make sure NFC is on.

  • iPhone: NFC is built in and always on for iPhone 7 and newer. No setup needed, but the screen must be unlocked.
  • Android: Go to Settings, search for NFC, and make sure it's toggled on.

Try a different spot on the phone. iPhones read from the very top of the back. Most Androids read from the center of the back.

Hold steady for a second or two. A quick swipe past the tag won't register.

Remove thick cases or wallets. A bulky case can block the signal.
